Energy Star and AB1103

Effective January 1, 2014, owners of nonresidential properties must disclose their properties’ Energy Star Portfolio Manager score to any prospective buyer, lessee, or lender. The Energy Performance Benchmarking Disclosure Law—AB 1103—requires utilities to develop and maintain the Portfolio Manager benchmark information. It is expected that this requirement will begin to reward high-performing buildings and penalize underperforming buildings, thus incentivizing property owners to invest in energy efficiency.
